It would be great if every time a new version of Tableau comes out, at least one (superstore...) of the sample databases should have its max date incremented to 6 months or so beyond the release date. This makes creating examples using today() and other date math much easier.
When creating a TOC using actions it would be nice if we could organize the list of dashboards in the TOC by moving them up or down in the list. (Or, have an easier way to create a TOC.) Thank you, Lisa

It would be great to be able to connect to data files which are stored in container files such as a ZIP or a TAR, particularly for CSV, without having to unzip them. This would even more useful where the data is coming from a websource and being able to load selected files over the internet! Treemaps in Tableau 8 do not function the way traditional Treemaps visualizations ought to function - there is no easy way to group or partition related categories of data into blocks or sections within the treemap. Using color could achieve this but then it takes color away as an option for highlighting the range of measure values. Tableau Desktop should add a features where you could switch data source (.tde) file using a dropdown list on a dashboard. This will be a good use if you have a large scale dataset and you want to view your report of your previous or recent week as selected will refresh your entire report.
The knowledge base and forums can be a good reference, but I suggest that Tableau Software establish a quality support function, with a "help desk" call in line. Hoping a another user answers a question in a forum is very inefficient, especially for questions requiring a straight answer that a relatively proficient user should be able to answer without difficulty.

There is no variable or method currently in Tableau to access the value for the Measure Names field. If there was a way to access this, it could be used when creating calculations that require conditional formatting.
In Tableau, you can create a combination graph from one bar and one line. When trying to use multiple bars on dual axis, the line just shows up as a point in each group. You should be able to create a combination graph with as many bars and lines as you want.
Using Tableau Desktop, you are limited by screen resolution. If there was a web editor screen resolution would be a non issue.
Instead of using column and row dividers to format borders, there should be a method, just like there is in HTML, to modify top, bottom, left and right borders of a cell or table.
If you have a grouped bar chart in Tableau, the dimension names are shown at the top. Best practice is to display names along the bottom axis.
If you create a table that has the same value in one column of multiple rows, standard practice is to repeat these values. Tableau suppresses them and only shows the value once. It would be nice to have the ability to Repeat or Suppress these values.
